Little miss sunshine trailer analysis

The film is about a dysfunctional family - and each of the characters are very unique and have their own idiosyncrasies.  We are introduced to each of them and the use of camera and costume help us establish a relationship with them.  Olive is the most significant character in the trailer. We can see that Olive has over sized glasses, this makes her look vulnerable. There were lots of close ups used for Olive, this may be because they wanted everyone to know that she has a different appearance from other children. The first shot of the trailer is a close up of Olive's eyes with her big glasses on. The trailer then introduces us the Olive's parents, this is only a quick shot of them. It then fades to black and introduces us to Olive's brother who is quite and chooses not to talk. It then takes us to a shot reverse shot of Olive's brother and uncle. It looks like they have a very supportive relationship with each other. Olive's uncle looks like he really wants to get his nephew talking and gives the impression that he will help him in any way. We then get introduced to Olive's granddad. The first shot we see of him is a medium shot, he is shouting and moaning about the dinner they have. He comes across as being quite grumpy, this is a typical stereotype of older people. Whilst the granddad is moaning about he dinner the camera does a close up of each characters face, This shows us their facial expression and how they are all feeling. It looks like they are fed up with him moaning, this gives us the impression that all he does is moan about things. It then moves onto the shot of them all eating dinner around the table, this is a long shot. The parents then start to argue, this could show us that they have a rocky relationship and may get into arguments quite frequently. The trailer starts to speed up when it introduces the names of the actors. It shows the actor and then switches to a yellow screen with their name on it. It also has Mexican music to go along with this part of the trailer. The music is upbeat and really brings out the funny side of the film. At the end of the film they include this one scene where they forget Olive and have to go back to her. this scene also brings out the funny side of the film and shows that its not all serious throughout. Lastly it includes things from the critics. This will help people decide if they want to go and see it because if it has a good review and has been selected for a film festival you can pretty much guarantee its going to be a good watch.

Some questions that you may ask yourself is; Will the characters all find happiness? Will the beauty contest be the right thing for Olive to do? Will she win the beauty contest seeing as her image is different to every other child? Will the uncle find someone to help him with his mental illness?
